Personally, I was always big fan of the original system. While you were able to quickly lose your hard earned rank, it was friendlier to less advanced players. As a result, ranks were much lower than they are today and you had to go through many more battles in order to obtain high ranks. When you reached a certain rank and went against privates you would receive only a few points or in some cases none for winning and lose many more than 16 points for losing. It’s skill based matchmaking so if you’re getting paired against people with 3k kills on one weapon it’s because they’re so abysmally awful at the crucible that they get put with newbies because that’s where the algorithm thinks they should be.
And you need to do it to get exotics because exotics are supposed to be difficult to get and the crucible is one of the very few places where difficulty is still a thing. Nothing is particularly OP, just more optimal and geared towards fighting other players than other stuff is, but even the most “OP” build can be defeated simply by good positioning and shot pacing. If you don’t want to play crucible, don’t play it.
